MINOT, Maine (AP) — Police in Maine are investigating an early morning disturbance that resulted in the shooting of a sergeant and a fire at a residence.
Police said they responded to a report of a disturbance in Minot on Wednesday morning and found the home on fire. They said they were escorting homeowners from the residence when they were fired upon by a man at the end of the driveway.
The man shot Androscoggin County Sgt. Randy Williams in the leg, police said. Williams was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to survive, they said.
Area fire departments responded and put out the fire, police said.
The shooter is in custody, and there is no threat to the public, police said.
Minot is about 10 miles west of Lewiston, the largest city in inland Maine.
