"I know what it's like when people keep asking what your plan is for the rest of your life," shared tennis legend Roger Federer, addressing graduates at Dartmouth College in the US. Here are the major life lessons Roger Federer shared in his speech:

Effortless is a Myth

Addressing the Class of 2024, Federer said, "Effortless is a myth."?

He acknowledged that while people often say his play looks effortless, the truth is something else - "The truth is I had to work very hard to make it look easy," he says.

It’s Only a Point

The second life lesson from Federer was: "It’s only a point."?

He explained, "You can work harder than you thought possible... and still lose. I have."?

He recounted how he processed his loss to Rafael Nadal at the Wimbledon 2008 finals, saying, "I lost Wimbledon. I lost my number-one ranking. And suddenly, people said, 'He had a great run. Is this the changing of the guard?' But I knew what I had to do... keep working. And keep competing."

Life is Bigger Than the Court

The third life lesson was: "Life is bigger than the court."?

Federer tells students, "I worked a lot, learned a lot, and ran a lot of miles in that small space (the tennis court)... But the world is a whole lot bigger than that."?

He emphasised that while tennis showed him the world, it could never be the world.?

He says, "...even when I was in the top five... it was important to me to have a life... a rewarding life, full of travel, culture, friendships, and especially family... I never abandoned my roots, and I never forgot where I came from."

What Federer shared in his speech is something not just graduates but also anyone at a crossroads in life can take to heart.

He concludes by saying, "Sometimes you've got to take a chance, and then figure it out... All of you have so much to give, and I hope you will find your own unique ways to make a difference, because life really is much bigger than the court."
